Transportation During Difficult Time

My wife and I booked Henry to take us from our wedding venue in Rathmullan to our mini-moon in Ballyliffin. He as there promptly and helped us load the car on a drizzly day. The night before, we had to adjust our plans, adding a stop at a hospital in Derry so that my wife could visit her ailing grandfather. Henry made the adjustment without issue and waited patiently in the car during the visit. My wife’s grandfather passed away that afternoon. Late that night, I sent Henry a text asking if he could pick us up early so that she could be with her family. He responded promptly and was there exactly when he said he would be the following day, then drove us safely to Derry through terrible conditions.

The long and short of it is that if you are looking for someone that is kind, compassionate, and professional. You won’t find anyone better than Henry. If you want a comfortable ride with a driver that knows and loves the region, Henry’s your man.

Even during our short and emotional trip I was impressed by his knowledge and ability to tell a story. He shared tidbits of information about places we’d both been, that neither of us knew. We can’t wait to book him again for a full tour experience.

Our group of six saw beautiful County Donegal with Henry Doohan, and we couldn’t have done it better. He is the consummate professional: knowledgeable, articulate, and a delight to be with. His Mercedes van is very comfortable and impeccably maintained. He picked us up in Sligo on the first day and dropped us off at a Dublin airport hotel on the last day. He was very attentive to the needs of our group, and we all had a great time!

Wonderful Two Days in County Donegal

Henry was a great tour guide and very easy to work with. He picked us up at our hotel in Donegal town and took us on a variation of the south Donegal tour with the addition of a lovely Assaranca waterfall and Maghera beach and caves. Henry is very knowledgeable and delightful company. This first day finished with a lovely drive across the County by Mount Errigal to our hotel in Derry (Londonderry). He picked us up the next morning and took on the Inishowen tour including a great lunch stop at Nancy’s Barn (must get the seafood chowder). Henry even produced a double rainbow at Malin Head but don’t expect that every time. I am sure wherever he takes you it will be great.

A Day to Remember for a Long Time

Without a doubt, my day out touring with Henry was the highlight of my trip to Ireland. I traveled to Donegal with a mission in mind – to spend a day experiencing the area around Lough Swilly and Inch Island as my mom’s family may have done before coming to America. Several decades earlier, I had helped my mom locate her last few very elderly relatives who stayed and it meant the world to her. With that memory, I wanted to return to gain a deeper context for the stories of my mom’s family.

Henry was amazing! He very thoughtfully considered my objective and came up with a plan that took us up to Grianana Aileach first for the incredible vista across Lough Swilly to Lough Foyle and from Inch Island across to Derry – where my mom’s cousins were from. The view was nothing short of majestic, and its impact will stay with me for a very long time. Then on to Inch itself for a drive through while I captured video of life as it is today on the island.

Later in our day when Henry mentioned he had worked on documentaries, I wasn’t surprised. His talent and expertise set the stage for me to experience a personal and very meaningful documentary of my family’s history in Donegal.

Henry had great suggestions to follow after we headed north. I loved the town of Buncrana and learned quite a bit at the Doagh famine village. The Magic Road on the way to Malin Head was unique, and of course the scenery was grand at Fort Dunree, at the Star Wars movie site, and at Malin Head. Henry was very patient (hello – husbands out there!) as I took my time absorbing and capturing the incredible beauty at each stop.

Plus, it was just a lot of fun to ride with Henry and catch up on the issues of the day in contemporary Ireland. My most recent trip had been in 2018, so I have a small perspective on how it has changed over the decades and I’m always interested in being properly informed by the people who are living it day to day.

If you make the effort to visit Donegal, you would be remiss in not relying on Henry’s expertise to thoroughly enjoy Donegal!

Great Experience

We wanted to visit Ireland and see where my Wife’s ancestors came from. She had done some research and had limited information about them, While we wanted to see the highlights, we let Henry know we were most interested in chasing down information about her ancestors and visiting the remote towns in Donegal where they had lived about 100 years ago. We sent him the information and he prepared the perfect itinerary for us. In addition to showing us a few highlights in the area, he worked his way though a couple of cemeteries with us in Clonmany and found her Great Grandfather’s grave site. He also helped us find his old abandoned home along a near impassible dirt road in Shamdrin. He understood us and was completely flexible in making changes in the daily plan on the fly as we learned more about her ancestors along the way. Most importantly he was a pleasant, engaging and knowledgeable companion. At the end of our two days, we felt we were leaving a friend. We will likely go back to Ireland and we will look forward to connecting with Henry again.

The best tour guide Ireland has to offer!

Where to start…communication with the company is great! I was able to either talk to or email Henry and receive an immediate reply. He was able to answer all my questions to help my group to prepare for a great day. We were a group of 6 on a cruise around Ireland. We were picked up promptly at the appointed time at the cruise port in a very clean Mercedes SUV. Once introductions were made we were off on a journey across Donegal with an extremely knowledgeable person that really loves his home. Henry is a plethora of information. He driving was wonderful. We went to so many wonderful places, all of which he could give a story to. I can not say enough positive about the service he provided and the tour he gave. What I can say is the next time I am in Ireland I will definitely reach out for his services again. If you want to learn about Ireland in comfort and enjoy the day you should try this tour.
